Zoe said it best when she said “Chile truly brings out your purest form”. Although I cant say I have changed drastically in the past 5 months, Chile has taught me alot and allowed me to discover and learn many new things about myself and life. Sounds cheesy but its the truth. Never did I think that I would go abroad and be fortunate enough to see and do so many things. Today marks my...

Well, I can finally cross “climbing up a volcano” off my bucket list! What an amazing experience, challenging of course but I must say it felt unbelievable when Michelle and I made it to the top. Monday morning I got back from Pucon, about 9 hours south by bus from Santiago. We arrived early Saturday.. checked into our hostal, walked around and then rented bikes and did a little biking...

Lets just say last night was an adventure.. a rebellious adventure I must say. Now that everyone is done with classes and finishing up finals the true bonding is happening. We are all trying to fit in the last few things we wanted to do before we left and wishing we had more time. Most people are traveling from December 1st until they go home.. therefore, that leaves most of us with not much time...

Hello all! Sorry I have been so bad at blogging lately, the truth is nothing exciting has been happening. Friday night I went to a huge electronic festival with some friends and had a great time. I am not getting down to the last few weeks of my trip and with that, comes finals. Tuesday I had a history due, Wednesday I had a culture and society test and today I just turned in my final writing...

Last Thursday night, Zoe, Brenna and I headed for the bus station to hop on a bus a  to Osorno, a town in the South of Chile. After an overnight bus ride that lasted eleven hours.. we arrived bright and early Friday morning in the town. Since we had a long weekend, Monday and Tuesday off of school, we decided to go stay with Valentina and her family at their ranch house. When Zoe was in high...

Hello all! Hope everyone has had a wonderful week. On Sunday I got back from a four day trip with my group to the city of Temuco, about an hour and a half plane ride to the south. We went on this trip to learn about Mapuche culture. According to the research my friend Melinda did, Mapuches make up 4% of the population. Our trip focused on their culture and opening the doors to communication...

This past week went by unbelievably quickly, most likely because monday was a holiday. Nothing really to share thats new. This weekend is going to be spent writing a history essay and studying for a test.. both on Tuesday. As much as I was dreading devoting a weekend to schoolwork, I have two big things to look forward to… Temuco trip and Osorno trip. I am super excited about both of them...

My mom has made it safely back home after what she said was a wonderful trip. She was so lucky to have stayed in a lovely bed and breakfast. My host family absolutely loved her and included her in everything we did. Thursday we went with my mom and Chilean mom to see Violeta Parra, a documentary on the life of a notable Chilean composer, songwriter and folklorist. On our way back, we stopped and...

This week, my mom and I both send our greetings. It has been a wonderful past four days with my moms arrival. She arrived in Santiago Friday and has been having a great time. She is staying at a bed and breakfast that is situated right in the center, very close to many government buildings and steps away from the metro. Two gay guys(one that is from Easter Island and the other from Santiago but...

Hola a todos! Today marks the eleventh week I have been in Chile, ELEVEN. I couldn’t even believe it. We are supposed to have a mid semester meeting today but it got cancelled however, that means I have halfway down with my trip and more than halfway through the semester(…due to the fact classes end Nov. 16th). I feel like just the other day, my friends and I were talking about all the trips we...

This past weekend, to celebrate Fiestas Patrias, Chile’s Independence Day.. I did a range of different things. Thursday I went with three of my friends to another university to go to a party we were invited to by a Chilean friend. After a long trek to her university during rush hour we arrived and got to kick off the weekend of celebration by dancing, eating empanadas and being entertained...

This past weekend was a nice and low key weekend once again. Did quite a bit of walking with my friend Zoe and Michelle also joined us on Sunday to check out the national stadium where the U de Chile soccer team plays. We also found quite a few tennis courts and the tennis court where the Davis Cup will be played Chile against Uruguay.. Thursday through Saturday I believe. Sunday also marked an...

Here I go to try and update you on the past few days, or actually week! Had a good week at school, still havent had a large amount of homework but finally getting in the routine of being a student at a Chilean University. Let me tell you, its requires a little more patience and time than Denison. Due to the fact that the campus is a good 30 minutes from my house, I am required to really stay on...

This weekend was nice and relaxed but also full of great things. Friday, was a day to look forward to. Since we had gotten back from Iquique we had plans to play soccer once again down on the fields at the campus where I am taking most of my classes. You are able to reserve fields when you want and we decided to play on Friday. For about an hour and a half we played a 5 on 6 soccer game and just...

And once again… I apologize for the gap in blogs. I need to learn to leave smaller updates so that I don’t have to dread sitting at my computer writing about the past week. To start off, I would like everyone to know that all four of my classes are back in session and I am finally going to school normally. I must say though, that it was tough to have my three hour class on Tuesday because I was so...

Hello everyone! Really have not been doing well with the blogs but going to do a quick update now. Got to go to a soccer game the other night, a Catolica soccer game up in Las Condes which is one of the Santiago communities. One of our friends is staying with his uncle here in Chile but is still part of our program. So, we got invited to his uncles house before the game to have some drinks and...

I just realized that I haven’t blogged in a while but I am back to update you all on my weekend and a few things that have been happening here. To start out, ski trip has been cancelled due to the weather. Supposed to rain tomorrow and will be snowing on the mountain, which sounds perfect but due to safety and transportation, they have rescheduled. Unfortunately, the day they have rescheduled the...

A month ago today, I arrived in Santiago. It is unbelievable to look back and realize that a month has already passed and I fortunately have four more to go. This week has been an eventful one already, staying in line with my feeling that there is always something happening in Santiago. Monday, I had the day off and took it easy. Got on the metro, was on it for about 40 minutes, got off the metro,...

Hello everyone! Hope everyone has been having a lovely weekend. This weekends marks my third weekend here, meaning on Wednesday… I have been here for a month. Time has sure been flying by. Four more months to enjoy this wonderful place! After an eventful Thursday, Friday brought a more low key day. We turned in our critical analysis essays for Chile Contemporaneo, the class we took as orientation....

Today marked the most eventful day yet, both that I have had but also in Santiago. It started off as a normal day, didn’t have class this morning so I woke up later and just began my normal activities: check my email, go have breakfast and begin my essay for CIEE due Friday. I knew that today was going to be huge day in the city because the students had planned a protest but not an authorized one....

Hello all! Sorry I have been slacking on the blogging. Didn’t really do much this weekend, just stayed around home and got a few class scheduling things done and have a few nice conversations with mi mama, Carmen. Because it is still cold here, the family is either in their own rooms with their heaters or downstairs with the heater on… usually in their rooms. Carmen keeps apologizing for the...
